Los Angeles Times

I am taking a quick break from my writing crazed schedule to update you on a few things.  Well, actually just one thing.  A review for Swim the Fly has been published in the Los Angeles Times.  It’s pretty cool (at least to me) because I used to live in LA.  Here’s the link if you want to read it:
Los Angeles Times Review

The rest of my life (aside from the writing) has been consumed with graduation celebrations and ceremonies and dinners and brunches.  Graduation never lasted this long when I went to school.  It was the diploma and prom and that was it.  The past couple of weeks my stepson’s school has had award ceremonies, diploma ceremonies, barbecues, dinners, parties, fireworks, parades, pageants, a Blue Angels exhibition, festivals, jugglers, and magicians.  It’s been fun, but exhausting.

Hi! Unfortunately, I couldn’t find Swim the Fly at 2 different Barnes and Nobles or a Borders bookstore in LA, but I thought you’d like to hear that I DID find it at the library. It’s nice that such a new book is so quickly found at the library so kids that maybe can’t afford to buy it still have the opportunity to read it. Although I doubt I’m your ideal demographic (44 year old female), I found your book very entertaining, which I had every confidence I would based on your humorous postings and videos so far. I like it when a book can make me laugh out loud.  “It’s like a miracle.” and “He’s probably going to put my ID in a safe and then throw it into the pool so I’ll have to pick the lock while holding my breath.” sections in particular struck me very funny. Also, bonus points have been awarded for appreciating the spouse, which every author ought to and which you clearly do.

Here’s my casting suggestion for the movie: Jane Lynch as Ms. Luntz. I don’t know her personally, so I’m not plugging a friend or anything, but this woman cracks me up! I just pictured her once I got into the character a bit.

Have a nice evening and now give Scooter a belly rub!

Hi Diane,
Thanks for the nice comments about the book.

It’s strange with the bookstores.  A lot of them have it, some of them don’t.  I’ve seen it in some Borders and Barnes and Nobles and not in others.  Glad to hear it’s in the library though!!!

Your casting idea is a good one.  That’s not how I initially conceived Ms. Luntz but I do think Jane Lynch is very funny and would be great in the role.  Not that I have any sway over who gets cast but I’ll mention it to the producers if we ever get that far.  You never know how these things will go.

BTW - Scooter thanks you!
